Celine Dion56 years old, revealed for the first time in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with a strange neurological condition known as stiff person syndrome (SPR), which causes muscle stiffness in the torso, with acute pain and mobility difficulties.
Cover star of French Vogue's May issue, Dion told the magazine that she is “doing well” but that her condition requires “a lot of work.”
“Five days a week I undergo athletic, physical and vocal therapy,” said.
“I have not defeated the disease, since it is still inside me and always will be. I hope there is a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but for now I have to learn to live with it,” he explained.
There is no cure for stiff person syndrome. It is progressive, but treatment can help control symptoms. According to the United States National Institutes of Health, it affects women twice as often as men.
In May of last year, Dion canceled a series of concerts scheduled for 2023 and 2024, not feeling strong enough to go on tour.
Asked about her ability to return to the stage, Dion told Vogue France that she cannot answer that at the moment.
“I don't know (…) My body will tell me.”

In January, Dion announced that she would make a documentary, which would air on Amazon Prime Video, about her illness to help raise public awareness.
