Nuzman, 79, was convicted of corruption, organized crime, money laundering and tax evasion. Former mayor of Rio Sérgio Cabral and the CEO of the organizing organization Leonardo Gryner also received long prison sentences.
In October 2017, Nuzman was arrested as part of an investigation into corruption at the Rio Olympics, where he was suspected of organizing bribes to members of the International Olympic Committee Kok.
