Caracas Venezuela.- The offices of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado in Caracas were raided early Friday by hooded men who caused damage and stole documents and equipment.
The Vente Venezuela organization, headed by Machado, reported on its X social network account that six men with their faces covered and without identification entered the party headquarters in eastern Caracas at 3:00 a.m. after subduing the guards.
The men sprayed graffiti on walls, broke doors and stole equipment and documents, Vente Venezuela said, without providing further details.
Authorities have not yet commented on the incident.
The incident occurred hours after former legislator Machado, who became the main promoter of the opposition coalition candidate Edmundo González after being disqualified from holding public office, reported that she was under protection for fear of her life and freedom in the face of the escalation of attacks by the authorities, who have requested her arrest and accused her of promoting violent acts.
The opposition leader said in an opinion piece published Thursday in the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal that she was under protection out of fear. “I write this from hiding, fearing for my life, my freedom and that of my compatriots in the dictatorship led by Nicolás Maduro,” she said.
Machado and González made their last public appearance on Tuesday at a mass rally with their supporters in the streets of Caracas. They have not been seen since.
The leader posted a video on her X account on Thursday in which she called on her followers to participate in rallies in the capital and other cities on Saturday. The opposition event will coincide with a march called by the ruling party in Caracas.
The complaint came a day after Maduro accused her of promoting the protests that took place after the National Electoral Council (CNE) declared the president’s reelection in the July 28 elections and called her a “terrorist” and asked for “fair justice.”
Other Venezuelan authorities have called for the arrest of Machado and Gonzalez, who was recognized by the United States as the winner of the presidential election on Thursday.
