Covid, in Nuoro high school students in protest: “Enough bans”. The principal has imposed a ban on piercings, long nails, and other very strict rules even for recreation
Sitting on the steps and in the street the students of the high school of human sciences and music Sebastiano Satta from Nuoro they have refused to enter the classroom for days, even braving the cold of the recent snowfall. The reaction of the students comes after the stiffening of the school protocol set by the headmaster, Professor Carla Rita Marchetti: from prohibition to leave the classroom without being accompanied by a janitor to the piercing prohibited and ai cell phones turned off, to be delivered at the first hour to be armored until the end of the lessons.
Of the total 400 students, only a small percentage entered the classroom, while the others remained at the entrance to the high school, expressing their dissent with slogans and signs. Discontent on which the weight of a year and a half of Dad hangs, of interpersonal distance and prohibitions in the classroom and in common areas.
Nuoro, the new school protocol
Among the most contested points, the fact that children are forbidden to leave the classroom without being accompanied by the janitor, even to go to the bathroom, and the prohibition, during class hours, to reach the vending machines, even for a bottle of water. And then the absence of a real recreation, replaced by breaks of 10 minutes every hour, to be spent sitting at the desks, to which are added the ban on wearing piercings and growing nails over one centimeter in length, and the obligation to hand over the cell phone to the professors at the beginning of the day.
After a meeting between the head teacher e the school representatives mediation for recreation was reached to find an agreement. “I can meet the kids on the recreation issue “, said the manager, “despite having asked them to collaborate with us in the drafting of an adequate plan, so that they are aware of the difficulties that institutions face today in adhering to the anti-Covid rules. For the rest I can do nothing, because the anti-contagion rules that I enforce in the institute are established by national protocols. Indeed, to enforce them, I was also forced to hire two more janitors, who will operate as long as the state of emergency remains. It is a hard commitment for us too “.
Students: “We like to study but we want the conditions to do it in the best possible way”
The rules on piercings and nails were imposed, according to the head teacher, to avoid injuries to the boys. And cell phones? “Children can bring tablets with downloaded digital books into the classroom, but I cannot allow them to have a wifi connection”, Marchetti points out, “which would clearly be made possible for them by having their cell phones with them”. But the students claimed: “We want to live these years of high school well and bring good memories with us”. “We like to study, and that is precisely why we are here to protest: because we want to have the conditions to do it in the best possible way.” Therefore, the strike will continue indefinitely.
