The number of deaths in the Gaza Strip due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas reached 25,105 this Sunday (21 January 2024). Another 62,681 have been injured since the conflict began on October 7, 2023. The information was published by the news agency Al Jazeera and are sourced from the Palestinian Ministry of Health (controlled by Hamas), but cannot be independently verified.
The broadcaster, which is financed by the Qatari monarchy, reported that, of the total number of deaths in Gaza, 9,600 were children. Among the injured, there are 8,663. Another 8,000 people are missing. In the last 24 hours alone, around 178 Palestinians were killed and 293 were injured.
In the West Bank, the Palestinian death toll is at least 369, including 95 children, and more than 4,000 injured. The Israeli government said 1,139 Israelis died in the conflict and 8,730 were injured.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked southern Israel, killing thousands of people and capturing around 240 hostages. In response, Israel declared war and began bombings.
