“Notable Speach” gave Godolphin the UAE the title of the English 2000 Guineas, the first classic race of the British season, which was held at the ancient Newmarket Racecourse.
The undefeated “Notable Speach”, under the supervision of Charlie Appleby and led by William Buick, was able to give the blue team the fifth victory in this prestigious classic title reserved for three-year-old fillies over the 1,600-meter mile for the first category.
The son of “Dabawi” succeeded in clinching the title in his first participation on the grass floor, as the horse competed in three matches, all over the mile distance and on the artificial surface at Kempton Racecourse.
“Notable Speach”, which started from the sixth gate during the race, settled at the back of the horses, but things changed in the last 400 metres, when he rushed strongly and overtook his rivals, one by one, from the outside, to take the lead with ease.
The champion horse recorded a time of 1:37:21 minutes, a difference of one and a half lengths from “Rosalion” by Sheikh Mohammed bin Obaid Al Maktoum, supervised by Richard Hannon and driven by Shawn Levy, while “Hatem” by Sheikh Abdul Malik Al Sabah, also supervised, came in third place. Hannon and ridden by jockey James Doyle.
The Guineas evening also witnessed the “Liberty Lane” of Sheikh Mohammed bin Obaid Al Maktoum, driven by Clifford Lee and supervised by Carl Burke, winning the title of the William Hill Suffolk Stakes “Handicap” at a distance of 1800 metres.
Charlie Appleby said: “This colt is unique, he has the ability to win, despite the circumstances, and it is rare to see a horse that comes from racing on synthetic tracks straight into a classic race shine like this.”
