Apple WWDC 2024 is approaching and the Cupertino company is preparing to announce all its great news related to the implementation of AI in iOS 18. Apparently, however, the event will not be limited to describing how intelligence artificial will integrate with the new operating system.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, in fact, the company plans to renew even things like the Settings app for iOS and macOS, Control Center, Messages, Mail and more.
What’s new for Settings, Control Center, Messages and Mail
Software changes of this type are not minor innovations. As Gurman himself writes in his Power On newsletter, one new Settings UI “cleaner” will mean better organization and improved research. Apparently a similar revamp will also come to the System Settings app on macOS, while Apple will also update the Control Center: The Quick Settings slideout menu in iOS will see the introduction of a new music widget and improvements to how the operating system works with smart appliances. Gurman didn’t give many details, but given the issues with the Home app it’s not hard to imagine improvements.
But that is not all. Messages will have a new feature that allows you to animate individual words in a text message, as a MacRumors report from Friday, May 31, already anticipated. There will also be new Tapback icons – the reaction emoji-like icons that appear when you long-press on a message. In this context of general renewal, it is finally likely that Apple will also make changes to the Photos user interface and update the Mail app with “several improvements”.
Apple is also expected to announce visionOS 2.0, with native versions of proprietary apps. Currently, visionOS only has iPad versions of Apple apps like Home, Calendar, Podcasts, and Pages. However, Gurman reiterated that Apple’s main focus at WWDC 2024 will be on AI and that some features will arrive as early as this fall together with iOS 18.
Among those rumored in the past for iOS we mention real-time voice transcription for the Voice Memos and Notes apps, personalized emojis created by AI and, above all, a huge update to Siri, which apparently will be able to. With iOS 18 Siri will have the power to control tons of apps via AI and perform tasks within the apps themselves based on the device’s analysis of what you’re doing. A bit like a cross between the “Large Action Model” promised by Rabbit and Clippy.
