We told you in the following days how in 2025 the Auto Show of Geneva will not be held. But not even the following year, the year after that and so on, since the organizers announced it definitive stop of one of the most iconic shows in the history of motoring: a closure that can be defined as permanent, at least as far as Switzerland is concerned, given that the appointment in Qatar scheduled for November of next year has not been cancelled.
The Geneva Motor Show closes permanently
The return of the Geneva Motor Show in 2024 should therefore be read as a touch and run after four years of suspensions due to Covid-19. But in this case the pandemic has nothing to do with it, and indeed it was the states that decreed the definitive stop to the fair “the too many uncertainties linked to the auto industry and the erosion of the attractiveness seen in the main European shows”. A painful but inevitable decision in light of the current panorama.
The reasons for the farewell
To all this we must add a certain lack of interest in the event on the part of car manufacturers: in the last edition of the Geneva Motor Show it was the Chinese brands on the launch pad to capture attention, also and above all due to the absence of most traditional car manufacturers. Not to mention the big one amount of investments request to keep the whole thing going: the president of the Comité permanent du Salon international de l’Automobile Foundation, Alexandre de Senarclens, defined it as a coup de grace for a future edition.
Appointment in Qatar
“For its upcoming festival dedicated to automotive excellence, and on the heels of a successful first edition, Gims Qatar can continue to rely on the know-how and recognized skills of the teams that already started and developed the previous edition – commented Sandro Mesquita, CEO of Gims – Car shows continue to attract brands, but in different parts of the world“.
