Red Bull needs a leap in quality
“A five-second advantage over Verstappen would be ideal”. So the track engineer of Landon Norris Will Joseph asked his driver to open a gap in the first stint of the Singapore GP run on medium tyres. The English driver, who in the first laps seemed to adopt the classic Marina Bay tactic where the group is compact, carried out the requests and by one second per lap he dug a gap between himself and Max Verstappen, reaching practically a pit-stop advantage.
An impressive display of strength comparable to the one shown at Zandvoort in Holland, when after overtaking Verstappen on the track, Norris inexorably went into a breakaway. Helmut Marko he stressed that Max Verstappen’s second place is pure gold for Red Bull and the Dutchman on a difficult track like Singapore, but at the same time a change of pace is needed from the RB20 in these four weeks of break that will lead F1 to the first of the two final triplets, the one that will start in the United States in Texas, a stage that also includes a Sprint race.
“The gap is alarming, It’s crazy how Norris left – the words of Helmut Marko reached by the Austrian newspaper oe24 – we urgently need services. Fortunately, we now have four weeks in which we can work. There is a lot to do.” Unlike the summer break, which involves the closure of the factories for at least two weeks, in this ‘anomalous’ autumn stop it will be possible to push full steam ahead in the factories towards the final rush of the season.
