McLaren’s tribute
There is great anticipation to finally see the extraordinary bike on track livery made by McLaren on the occasion of Monaco Grand Prix. In memory of Ayrton Sennawho lost his life thirty years ago in Imola and who with the Woking team won five of his six overall victories in the Principality, the British team will replace the papaya color with those of the Brazilian flag, the same ones adopted by ‘Magic’ on his helmet and which made him (and still makes him today) a unique icon.
The special helmets of Piastri and Norris
McLaren, however, will not be the only one to pay homage to Ayrton Senna on the occasion of the eighth GP of the season: also Oscar Piastriin fact, presented the special livery of his helmet for this single event, and which also in this case recalls the one used by Senna throughout his career from the minor categories to F1: “It will be an honor to race through the streets of Monaco in our special Senna livery – he has declared – he was a master of this track with six victories and it is important to pay homage to a role model of our sport. I also came up with a special design for the helmet and I will auction one of my helmets to raise funds for the Ayrton Senna Institute, which does amazing work in providing opportunities and transforming lives. The last two race weekends in Miami and Imola have been among my strongest in F1 and it is an exciting prospect to go to Monaco with good momentum.”
The same goes for the Australian’s teammate, Lando Norriswho presented their helmet in the ‘green-gold’ version: “My tribute to a hero of mine – we read on the British social profile – Senna is a true legend of our sport and has inspired not only me, but every driver racing today. He is the greatest to ever race in Monaco and I wanted to capture that in this helmet. His iconic design has been paired with mirror-like chrome to reflect the streets he was so good at.”
