Nissan looks concretely at the future of automated driving. The Japanese car manufacturer has announced that it will offer mobility services to autonomous driving in the homeland by the fiscal year 2027. In particular, to carry out this offer the Japanese giant will collaborate with third parties, for example local authorities and transport operators.
Two intermediate stages…
The roadmap for the introduction of this technology has already been drawn up: during the fiscal year 2024 will begin testing in the Minato Mirai area of Yokohama with an autonomous vehicle based on the Serena minivan, while in the following two fiscal years we will move on to demonstration tests in the Yokohama area, including Minato Mirai, Sakuragi-cho and Kannai, with a total of 20 vehicles with drivers on board.
…to get to 2027
Two preparatory stages for what will happen in the fiscal year 2027, or when the provision of autonomous driving services will be started in three or four municipalities, including rural areas, with dozens of vehicles. Regarding this last piece of the program drawn up by Nissan, the company has made it known that they are underway talks with some municipalities.
Nissan collaborations
“This initiative will be closely managed collaboration with the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and other central ministries, which will promote initiatives for the creation of new autonomous mobility services within the Level 4 Mobility Dissemination Committee organized by them”, we read in an official note signed by Nissan.
