The confirmation comes from the official support page dedicated to the problem of “responsiveness syndrome”, or for friends drifting, which causes an incorrect response of the analog sticks when they are in the neutral position. “Nintendo takes great pride in the great quality and durability of its products and is committed to continuous improvement,” reads the page. “Therefore, until further notice, Nintendo is offering users who purchased the respective products in the EEA, UK and Switzerland a control stick “responsiveness syndrome” repair, performed free of charge by official Nintendo repair centers. This applies even if the defect is caused by wear and tear and even if the 24-month manufacturer’s warranty offered by Nintendo has expired.”
Keep in mind however that Nintendo might refuse to perform free repair, where the problem occurred when using the Joy-Con with accessories or other items not manufactured by or for Nintendo.
In the past, the Japanese company has received numerous criticisms due to the Joy-Con drifting problem, widely spread among many players and which the company refused to repair for free in Europe. He also had to face various lawsuits in multiple states due to this defect of the Switch controllers.
In short, this is excellent news for all those who have defective Joy-Cons at home that are now out of warranty.
