The video game topic of the day is certainly the one concerning Nintendo and the complaint filed against Palworld, a title published by Pocket Pair on Xbox and PC accused of taking too much inspiration from the Pokémon series games.
The development team of the title released last January has decided, just in these minutes, to provide a first official response regarding the accusations, as we can see directly on the team’s Twitter profile independent:
Yesterday, a lawsuit was filed against our company for patent infringement. We have received notice of this lawsuit and will initiate appropriate legal action and investigation into the patent infringement claims.
We are not currently aware of the specific patents we are accused of infringing and have not been informed of any such details.
Pocketpair is a small indie game company based in Tokyo. Our goal as a company has always been to make fun games. We will continue to pursue this goal because we know that our games bring joy to millions of players around the world. Palworld was a surprise success this year, both for players and for us. We have been amazed by the overwhelming response to the game and have worked hard to make it even better for our fans. We will continue to improve Palworld and strive to create a game that our fans can be proud of.
It’s a real shame, but we’ll be forced to spend a lot of time on matters unrelated to game development because of this situation. However, we’ll do our best for our fans and to ensure that indie game developers aren’t hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.
We apologize to our fans and supporters for any concern or inconvenience this news may have caused. As always, thank you for your continued support of Palworld and Pocketpair.
We will keep you informed regarding the next developments of the intricate affair.
