According to what was reported by the Japanese newspaper Kyoto Shimbun and then translated into English by VGC USA, a man was accused of illegally hindering Nintendo's business by force. This is all linked to Nintendo Japan sporting events which have been postponed for safety issues.
The man in question is a 27 year old resident of Hitachi, Japan. According to reports, the individual threatened to “kill all attendees” at upcoming Nintendo events. Recall that the company has postponed Nintendo Live 2024 and the national finals of Splatoon Koshien 2023 in December 2023.
The man would have done it 39 threats between August and November 2023 using Nintendo's online application form, telling the company to “be careful at events where spectators are present.” He also allegedly said, “I'm going to make you regret putting such a horrible game into the world,” although it's unclear which game he was referring to.
Nintendo's confirmations on the threats
This accusation concludes (hopefully) the events that began last year. Nintendo had previously commented on the matter, stating in December 2023 that its employees had received incessant threats and that everything was then also aimed at the spectators, participants and staff of Nintendo Live 2024, forcing the cancellation for security reasons. The event was supposed to take place in January 2024, after the Splatoon event scheduled for December.
In February 2024 Nintendo announced that the Splatoon event and the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship they would have taken place on 13 and 14 April: both took place without problems.
The Nintendo Live event, which was supposed to take place in Tokyo, was apparently cancelled, after Nintendo announced the date in Sydney, Australia.
