There is no way to hide the tremendous success that represents the Nintendo Switch. Even though it has been on the market for seven years, it continues to sell very well. In fact, it is only a few million away from breaking the record and becoming the best-selling console in history.
According to the company, the Nintendo Switch has sold 143 million units so far. This puts it just 12 million behind the PlayStation 2, the best-selling console in history, which has sold 155 million units. They also estimate that they will sell 11 million more by the end of the year, so they will be very close to their goal.
While the hybrid is on the right track, there is also some ‘bad news’. Despite being close to breaking Sony’s console record, its sales are also reported to be down compared to last year. Although of course a year ago they had the boost of interest caused by the film Super Mario Bros. and the launch of Tears of the Kingdom.

We also cannot forget that the Nintendo Switch 2 is a reality that could arrive early next year. So the current console would have little time left to break this record before its successor steals sales from it. Do you think it will succeed?
What are the best-selling consoles besides PS2 and Nintendo Switch?
As we mentioned, Sony’s PlayStation 2 remains the best-selling console in history with 155 million units sold. Surprisingly, the Switch isn’t in second place on this list. This place belongs to the much loved and successful DS.
Nintendo’s beloved handheld console sold an estimated 154.02 million units over its lifetime. So the Switch still has a couple of titans to surpass. At the rate it’s coming along, it could be close, but it’s not yet certain that it will become the best-selling console in history. Would you like it to be?
