From the financial records of Nintendo for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023 information also arrives on salaries of managers of the company, which come across as quite surprising compared to what one would expect from a major player in this industry, being perhaps lower than expected.
In this case we are talking about some of the most important figures of the company, such as the CEO Shuntaro Furukawa and Shigeru Miyamototherefore truly the top of Nintendo, yet the figures that emerge, as regards only salaries, are not exactly colossal compared to what we have seen in other cases.
In this case, these are the salaries converted into dollars of some of Nintendo’s top managers:
- Shuntaro Furukawa: $2.51 million
- Shigeru Miyamoto: $2.02 million
- Shinya Takahashi: $1.61 million
- Satoru Shibata: $1.19 million
- Ko Shiota: $910,000
Nintendo: lower than expected salaries for managers?
Mind you, it’s still a lot of money, so it might make little sense to say they’re “low” salaries, but they are when compared to the figures going around in thegaming industryand considering that we are talking about one of the major companies in the sector.
To give just a few examples, the amounts of money that managers of high-profile US publishers make have recently emerged and it’s on a whole different level, with EA’s Andrew Wilson reaching $34.7 million and Bobby Kotick of Activision Blizzard which would even reach 154 million dollars.
To remain within the Japanese sphere, other managers of Japanese companies also earn more, such as the 4 million dollars of Yosuke Matsuda of Square Enix or the 3 million of Hajime Satomi of Sega.
It must also be said that the Nintendo document speaks of standard salaries, therefore it is probable that further money will flow to the managers through shares and other bonuses, but it is still a rather surprising comparison compared to other colleagues, and also considering the excellent conditions economy that Nintendo is in.
