The closing of the fiscal year of Nintendo It took place on March 31, 2024, but the company has finally shared information such as the total sales of the Switch, console that has surpassed 140 million units sold worldwide.
According to the recent Big N report, The Nintendo Switch has sold 141.32 million units worldwide since its launch in March 2017. During the last fiscal year, which ran from April 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, 15.70 million hardware units were sold, a decrease of 12.6% compared to the previous year.
Of the 15.70 million registered units, 3.8 million correspond to the normal model of the console, which means a drop of 37.1% compared to the previous year. For its part, The OLED Switch sold 9.32 million, an increase of 1.1% compared to what was recorded in the previous fiscal year. Lastly, the Switch Lite sold 2.52 million, a drop of 3.7% compared to the last annual record.
Although we are in the last phase of the Nintendo Switch, so it is natural that sales will go down, The Big N expects its current hardware family to sell 13.5 million units by March 31, 2025. This means that the Switch would become the second best-selling console in history, only behind the PlayStation 2 and its 160 million units.
The only Nintendo console that is ahead of the Switch is the Nintendo DS with 154.02 million units, although the Big N expects its current hardware to surpass this laptop throughout this fiscal year. On related topics, the date for the next Nintendo Direct is confirmed. Likewise, Nintendo confirmed when the Switch 2 will be revealed.
Author’s Note:
These are impressive numbers. Although the Nintendo Switch will not be able to surpass the PlayStation 2 during its life cycle, nothing rules out the possibility of this happening in the future. It all depends on Nintendo continuing to produce this console, similar to what happened with the PS2.
