Nintendo didn’t advertise this much, but during the last fiscal year it hired more than 400 people. The figure emerged from the recent report of the meeting with shareholders, which talks about a workforce of 7,724 employees, 400 or more of whom were hired in the last fiscal year.
The number has not been developed, so we don’t know which sectors the hiring has come from. Nonetheless, it’s interesting information, considering what last fiscal year it was one of the most burdensome ever for the industry in terms of layoffs.
Nintendo is going its own way
None of the big companies were saved from the phenomenon. Nintendo’s two competing console manufacturers, Microsoft and Sony, also made massive layoffs, leaving thousands of people at home. The massacre has assumed such proportions as to cause great concern, also because it was accompanied by the closure of entire studios and the cancellation of a myriad of projects.
Nintendo can boast of its own the excellent results obtained with Nintendo Switch, which is preparing to become the best-selling console ever, a title it has already conquered in Japan. The enormous sales of the console were matched by equally large sales of the company’s exclusive video games, capable of selling millions of copies.
Think of the gigantic successes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for a couple of the many viable examples. In short, the company is really solid and can look forward to the launch of Nintendo Switch 2, or Super Nintendo Switch or whatever the new console will be called, with optimism.
