Nine Sols by Red Candle Games is finally available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch. This is the new game from the authors of Detention and, above all, Devotion, title censored by Steam and GOG under pressure from the Chinese governmentdue to a hidden image that mocked Xi Jinping, the president of the Chinese dictatorship.
In short, due to sinister censorship, unfortunately also accepted by Western companies, we have lost a small masterpiece of the horror genre that still deserves to be played today (you can still purchase it in physical format). RedCandleGames is a team from Taiwanso China couldn’t close it directly, but tried to create scorched earth around it, so much so that the new project, Nine Sols, is of a completely different genre than its other games.
Seeking revenge
Available for purchase for €28.99 (€26.09 introductory offer), Nine Sols is a 2D action-platform with a rich mythology, with hand-drawn graphics and combat system inspired by Sekiro, the title from FromSoftware. It’s not us who say it, but the developers themselves, who openly touched on the topic during the presentation of the game.
The developers have defined it as a “Taopunk” game, meaning it fuses cyberpunk elements with Taoism and Far Eastern mythology. As the warrior Yi, the player must travel in search of the Nine Sols, the rulers of this forgotten kingdom. His goal is revenge, for reasons that will be explained throughout the game.
