The ER is also saturated with another 11 people waiting for a bed
About twenty people are waiting for a bed in the Rafael Méndez de Lorca hospital. Nine of these patients are attended by health professionals this Thursday in the Psychiatry corridor. Four of them remain on stretchers or beds and the rest are in wheelchairs, according to what THE TRUTH has learned.
The hospital emergency room is also saturated and 11 patients are waiting their turn to be admitted, but not all of them will be able to do so this Thursday because there is not enough room on the floors and they will have to wait at least until tomorrow to have a room.
The Councilor for Health, José Ángel Ponce, said that what is happening in the Lorca hospital is “unfortunate and very worrying” and that “it is more urgent than ever to expand it and provide it with the necessary staff because there are not enough professionals.” He added that the regional government must “address the planning of a new hospital.”
According to Ponce, Primary Care is clogged and the lack of attention to patients causes the aggravation of pathologies. “People have to go to the emergency room to see the doctor” because in the health center it is impossible.
