Colombian tennis player Nicolás Mejía advanced this Tuesday to the round of 16 of the Challenger de Bogotá Directv Open 2022, and took an important step to fight for the title of the contest, which is played at the Carmel Club.
Mejía, 335 in the ATP world ranking, surpassed the American Keegan Smith, 355 in the same ranking, with partials of 7-6 (2) and 7-6 (4), and ratified his good moment, after having reached the semifinals of the Cali Challenger last week.

Mejía’s rival in the round of 16 of the tournament
Mejía will face Argentine Juan Pablo Ficovich, 163 in the world and second seeded, in the round of 16. that left out another of the Colombians who was in the main draw, Sergio Hernández, who fell with partials of 6-2, 4-6 and 6-3.
Another of the locals who bid farewell to the tournament was Nicolás Buitrago, ranked 835th in the world ranking, after losing 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 to Tunisian Malek Jaziri. He also lost Andrés Urrea, surpassed by the Argentine Gonzalo Villanueva, 6-4, 6-1.
The match between Mejía and Ficovich will be played in the second shift, not before noon this Wednesday.
This will be the day in doubles
Mejía will also have action in the doubles tournament, in the last turn, pairing up with Andrés Urrea. They will face the Greek Michail Pervolarakis and the American Evan Zhu.
