Colombian golfer Nicolás Echavarría achieved a new top-10 this Sunday in the 2022 season of the Korn Ferry Tour, promotion circuit to the highest category of this sport in the world, the PGA Tour.
Echavarría finished in seventh place at the Memorial Health Championship, which was played on the field of the Panther Creek Country Club, located in Springfield (Illinois, USA).
The man from Antioquia played the four rounds under par (69-65-63-67), to finish with 264 hits, 20 under par, seven behind the champion, Paul Haley II.
This seventh place allowed Echavarría to rise to 33rd place in the points list of the aforementioned tour, remaining only eight places away from promotion to the PGA Tour, the maximum goal of the season.
Echavarría’s path to fight for the PGA Tour card
The 25 best golfers of the regular season receive the card of the world’s top golf circuit and in which Juan Sebastián Muñoz from Bogota and Camilo Villegas from Antioquia are already competing.
“I had a great week and a tournament in which I arrived rested, fresh and with good energy, which translated into a good end to the round during the 4 days, something that makes me very happy”, declared Echavarría.
“I feel more and more comfortable being at the top of the board and now the goal is to have good weeks in the remainder of the regular season, being aggressive with the game and giving it my all like I always have,” he added.
Marcelo Rozo also had a good performance
Marcelo Rozo, from Bogotá, also had a good performance in this tournament, finishing in 21st place, with 267 strokes (-17). Rozo moved up seven positions on the points list, going from 68th to 61st.
The Korn Ferry Tour will arrive on Thursday to the state of Missouri where the Price Cutter Charity Championship will be held, an event that gives away $750,000 in prize money and will allow Colombian golfers to continue fighting for their dream.
There are five tournaments left to play on the Korn Ferry Tour: two from the regular season and the three from the finals, which have a larger prize pool of one million dollars each.
