Still close to F1
Two weeks after the announcement of the divorce between Red Bull and Adrian Neweywhich will materialize in the first quarter of 2025, the British designer did not allow himself a weekend away from the world of motors.
Now distant from the F1 reality of the Milton Keynes team, and exclusively involved in the RB17 Hypercar project, Newey returned to the Circus with the Red Bull suit in the Principality of Monaco, however taking part in the Grand Prix de Monaco Historic not as an engineer, but as a pilot.
On the track with the 1968 Lotus
The Brit took to the track at the wheel of the Lotus 49B from 1968, a version of the famous English single-seater that Colin Chapman debuted that year in Monte Carlo, to the immediate success of Graham Hill. Newey, who participated in the D series (i.e. the one reserved for cars from 1966 to 1972, did not succeed in his objective of conquering the podium, coming close to doing so with his fourth position.
A placing that the aerodynamics wizard achieved also thanks to a nice overtaking completed to the detriment of Nicolas Matie, at the wheel of the V12 Matra MS120Band completing it in one of the most difficult points of the famous street circuit: the Loews hairpin.
