Once again, the tourism sector has broken its own record and closes a historic summer. In September alone, our country received 9.6 million international tourists, 9.1% more than in the same month of 2023. And for the total of the first nine months of 2024, the number of visitors was 73.9 million, 10.9% more than the previous year. It is the highest figure available to the INE; a record, the umpteenth.
Regarding spending per person, the data are also positive. In September, the total stipend made by foreign visitors reached 12,615 million euros, 12.7% more than in the same month of 2023. This means that each tourist spent 1,315 euros in our country, with an annual increase of 3.3%. For its part, average daily spending grew by 3.8%, to 195 euros.
When it comes to the countries of origin of these visitors, there are few surprises. The United Kingdom once again leads as the main issuing country, with more than 2.0 million arrivals in September (+5.3% year-on-year). They are followed by Germany, with 1.3 million (1.1% more) and France, with 1.1 million (14.3% more). If we take everything we have so far this year, the United Kingdom continues to lead (with more than 14.7 million and an increase of 7.4%), and France (with almost 10.3 million and an increase of 10.5 %) overtakes Germany (with nearly 9.4 million, 8.0% more).
