Vivianne Miedema has set a new milestone in the Women Super League, the highest English women’s football competition. The Arsenal striker is the first ever England player to be involved in 100 league goals.
Miedema made it 2-0 on behalf of Arsenal in the game against Birmingham City, making her the 100th finisher or reporter for a goal by the north London team. This season, after sixteen games, including this goal, Miedema has already been accurate ten times. The striker of the Dutch national team already has five assists to her name.
Miedema is immensely popular in London anyway. Last month she was one of the important sportswomen who were given a temporary statue in the English capital.
Other records
Miedema, who writes a monthly column on this site, has been playing for Arsenal since 2017. Before that she did not play in England. She has already broken several records in the Women Super League. At the end of 2020, Miedema was already the first player to score fifty league goals. A year later, she scored her 100th goal for Arsenal. In both cases, she was the first woman to achieve this.
Also in Orange, Miedema strings together the records. For example, the attacker was the first to score no fewer than eight goals in the group stage of an Olympic Games (2021). She made half of that in the first game against Zambia (10-3).
