Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has expressed his fear that the players will play many matches in a short period of time before the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which will be held from November to December.
And the tournament moved to its current date instead of holding it in June and July, due to the high temperatures in Qatar during the summer, which means adjusting the dates of the leagues so as not to conflict with the World Cup dates.
“I think the match calendar is very crowded, there are a lot of weeks with two team matches, especially in Europe,” said Neuer, 36, the goalkeeper and captain of Bayern Munich, who has participated in every World Cup and European Cup since 2010.
Neuer plays with his Bayern team 15 matches in the “Bundesliga” before mid-November, six matches in the Champions League, two matches in the German Cup, and the German Super Cup match, in addition to participating with the German national team in two matches in the European Nations League in late September against Hungary and England.
In total, the team plays 26 matches within 15 weeks, in addition to the “Bundesliga” season that will not stop until one week before the World Cup.
Germany coach Hansi Flick may call up six Bayern Munich players during the World Cup, and Neuer hopes that the crowded match calendar will not cause absences due to injuries during the World Cup.
“It will be important for all teams that the players be fully prepared during the tournament,” Neuer said during his participation with the German national team in a training camp in Spain in preparation for the European Nations League next month.
He added, “The wonderful thing about the World Cup is the presence of famous players among the fans.”
