Ukraine is receiving much-needed support from the Netherlands. The Dutch’s versatile YPR armored personnel carriers are intended to support Kiev.
Amsterdam/Kiev – Ukraine is in the war against Wladimir Putin difficulties. Above all, the relentless advance of Russian troops on the strategically important city of Kharkiv is making Volodymyr Zelensky to accomplish. To support Ukraine, Ukraine will now receive high-tech weapons from the Netherlands.
The Dutch Minister of Defense, Kajsa Ollongren, announced that the Dutch army’s YPR-765 armored vehicle would be made available to Ukraine. The special feature of the vehicle is that the small tank on tracks can be remotely controlled. The Dutch Defense Ministry announced that the military equipment should reach the Ukrainian armed forces “as soon as possible.” It is unclear how many of the small vehicles will be made available.
Netherlands with supplies for Ukraine: armored personnel carriers essential in the fight against Russia
In total, the Netherlands is said to have received 207 YPR Kiev armored personnel carriers since the beginning of the Ukraine war delivered, like the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform reported. Ollongren stressed: “The efforts we have made recently will pay off in the coming months. It is important that all countries continue to contribute to the joint effort. In this way, we effectively support Ukraine and contribute to the country’s victory in the fight for freedom. The need for air defense is still great. That’s why we’re looking at how we can contribute more together with other countries.”
The defense minister further described the vehicles as essential in the war against the Russian invasion. “This type of armored vehicle is indispensable for Ukraine. They are maneuverable, can move troops quickly and can be used for reconnaissance, attack and defense tasks. The remote-controlled weaponry offers the shooter additional security,” argued the minister. The 56-year-old also called for more support for the Ukrainian air defense.
Ukrainian air defense still under attack – Germany supplies three Patriot systems
In April, Germany promised Ukraine a third Patriot system from the Bundeswehr’s inventory in order to further strengthen the weakened Ukrainian air defense. At the same time, Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD), the others EU-States also want to supply their own Patriot systems to Kyiv. Annalena Baerbock (The Greens), Federal Foreign Minister, also supported the move: “With the additional Patriot system, we are supporting the people of Ukraine and strengthening the protective shield over their cities.”
The bad news: the other EU countries that could supply additional Patriot systems, such as Spain, Greece and Poland, have so far refused to supply their own weapons systems to Ukraine. The problem is obvious. At the moment, the demand for Raytheon Patriot systems is high and the waiting time for new orders is long, as Politico reported. Many of the states do not want to compromise their own defense, which is why Ukraine is currently waiting in vain for supplies. (sure)
