Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuexpressed his rejection before the warrant requested against him by a prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (CPI), along with similar requests for Hamas leaders.
Netanyahu, in a statement issued this Monday, expressed his displeasure at the comparison made by the ICC prosecutor between Israela democratic country, and Hamas, whom he described as “mass murderers.” He denounced this comparison as a “complete distortion of reality”, defending the morality of the Israeli army.
The Israeli leader, visibly upset, criticized the request for arrest warrants against him, along with his Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant, for alleged crimes such as “deliberately starving civilians”, “intentional homicide” or “extermination”. He questioned the legitimacy of such accusations and the basis on which they are based.
Netanyahu accused the ICC of perpetuating what he called “new antisemitism“, moving the conflict from the campuses of the West to the Court in The Hague. He expressed his shame at this situation and reaffirmed his position defending the integrity of Israel.
Expansion of arrest warrants
ICC prosecutor Karim Khan also requested arrest warrants against Hamas leaders, including Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh and Mohammed Deif. The accusations range from “extermination” to “sexual violence,” among other alleged crimes against humanity.
