As things are going, this week I saw Teresa Ribera’s examination in the European Parliament, and Begoña Gómez’s appearance in the Madrid Assembly’s investigation committee. And in both cases I wanted that at any moment the interrogated people, both Ribera and Gómez, would complain saying “I wasn’t expecting the Spanish Inquisition”, and the doors would suddenly open and Monty Python would burst in dressed as cardinals and shouting “Nobody wait for the Spanish Inquisition!”, as in the legendary sketch.
The comic turn would have been the only way to save with dignity two such low moments in our recent politics. Either way, both will remain for our particular history of infamy, which is already loaded.
