The results of a study, prepared by the Health and Wellness Community of the Association of Human Resources Directors (AEDRH), show that the Mental health has a direct impact on the workplace and it is the main cause of absenteeism from work due to illness in Spainrepresenting a 52% of the total lows.
This research, presented at the Congress on Health, Wellbeing and Conciliation in the world of work, exposes a notable increase in sick leave due to psychosocial illnesses over other ailments such as musculoskeletal illnesses which are the main cause for 43% of companies, and respiratory pathologies for 17%.
Furthermore, according to the study, people most affected by health problems are womenhe 61%and young people with ages between 18 and 34. 39% of Spaniards aged between 18 and 24 years regularly feel stressed.

On the other hand, the Absenteeism affects productivity by 86% and the work environment with 63%. The employee experience is also affected with a 37%which largely conditions their growth and professional development within the organization. It also generates a great impact at an economic level, since 2023 its cost was more than 60,000 million eurosaccording to the National Institute of Statistics.
For all this, more than 67% of companies have established policies to reduce these rates. Furthermore, more than 40% has also implemented training programs in the different managerial positions, with the focus on intermediate managers, fundamental in the organizational structure.
The measures that favor Mental health care is already a priority for companies. Organizations have multiple resources that ensure the mental and emotional health of your employeespsychology and telepsychology services, assessment of the psychophysical state in the workers’ health examination (VS), frequent evaluations of their emotional state or stress management techniques, are some of them.
Finally, Research ensures that good mental health boosts the productivity, creativity and resilience of workers, promoting a positive work environment and improving the reputation of companies in the market. However, it is important that this issue be addressed from a comprehensive perspective, in which all the agents involved, companies, unions, public and private health systems, health experts and social organizations, are involved.
