Nazi salute to the European Parliament. During the debate at the Plenary Assembly in Strasbourg on the rule of law, Bulgarian MEP Angel Dzhambazki, member of the Ecr Group, insulted Sandro Gozi, before the latter’s intervention on the rule of law in Poland and Hungary. Subsequently Dzhambazki left the assembly with the gesture of the Nazi salute to the vice president of the European Parliament Pina Picierno who at that moment was presiding over the Chamber.
“A fascist greeting to the European Parliament is unacceptable to me, anytime, anywhere. It offends me and everyone else in Europe”, the words of the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. “We are the House of Democracy. That gesture comes from the darkest chapter of our history and must be left there,” she emphasizes.
“In the session that I presided over tonight, the Bulgarian MEP Dzhambazki presented the Roman salute. I immediately condemned what had happened and asked for this ignoble and unacceptable gesture to be sanctioned. The European Parliament is a living monument of democracy against the barbarism of Nazi-fascism”, the tweet from Picierno.
