NATO | Finland participates in the NATO defense exercise, affects the Enontekiö area

The exercise can be seen and heard especially in the Enontekiö area during the first two weeks of March.

Defense forces participates in the Norwegian-led defense exercise in the northern parts of Finland, Norway and Sweden at the beginning of March. This is the first time that Finland, as a member of the military alliance NATO, participates in a regional joint defense exercise.

According to the Defense Forces, it is the largest participation in an international exercise abroad in its history. More than 4,100 Finnish soldiers will participate in the exercise. According to the Defense Forces, a significant part of them are reservists.

“Nordic Response 24 is the Defense Forces' most important international exercise of the year, which develops the Defense Forces' ability to participate in NATO-led joint operations in the northern region together with allies. Participating in the exercise promotes Finland's integration into NATO more and more closely,” writes Puolustusvoimat in its press release.

In total, approximately 20,000 soldiers from 14 different countries will participate in the exercise held on land, at sea and in the air.

The exercise is part of NATO's series of exercises, where NATO countries and their partners practice moving troops north to train in arctic conditions.

The exercise can be seen and heard especially in the Enontekiö area during the first two weeks of March. During transition to and from training 1.–3.3. and 14.–17.3. according to the Defense Forces, traffic can also be congested in the vicinity of ski resorts in Western Lapland.
