The 18th National Science and Technology Week (SNCT 2021) starts today (3) and runs until December 10th. Created in 2004, the traditional fair takes place in Brasília, at the Parque da Cidade Exhibition Pavilion, and features a program full of lectures, exhibitions and games to instigate scientific curiosity.
Specially aimed at young people and their families, the exhibition brings current themes and relevant discussions in the scientific world. Among the presentations on the main stage of the event are the future and technology of national satellites, the mapping of social technologies in the Amazon, data platforms for diseases of the autistic spectrum, geographic mapping of river basins by satellite and the development of diagnostic tests for Covid-19 in Brazil.
“The week takes place with all the existing and recommended precautions. We have exhibitions from all our research units, we have exhibitions from the Ministry of Education as well, as well as inspiration and – perhaps – funding for those who want to undertake in the areas of science and technology”, he said in an interview with TV Brazil the Minister of Science, Telecommunications and Innovation Marcos Pontes.
radio museum
THE Brazil Communication Company (EBC) will also be present at the event. In a special space that simulates an old radio studio, the Museu da Rádio Nacional – which is usually displayed in the company’s corridors – invites visitors to discover an analog radio frequency wave station.
The stage for several innovations from the last century, such as soap operas and newsletters, the museum brings equipment and information about an era where television and the internet were not even imagined, and the only means of communication – radio – stirred the imagination of listeners.
About the event, the president of EBC, Glen Valente, stated that the participation of Brazil Communication Company at the National Science and Technology Week “it is very important to show factual journalism with live coverage and broadcasts. In addition, we will take a little of the history of public communication with pieces from our collection.”
5G and connectivity
In contrast to the distant history of radio, A SNCT 2021 also presents small glimpses of a future that is no longer distant. stands assembled by the Ministry of Communications present to the public the innovations of the fifth generation of mobile connectivity, the 5G.
Auctioned on November 5th, 5G will bring to Brazil several technological innovations, as it allows very high speed connection between a series of simultaneous devices. The so-called Internet of Things (IoT), which allows remote surgeries, intelligent machines and autonomous vehicles are among the possibilities that should become part of the reality of Brazilians in the coming years.
At the stand, the Ministry of Communications presents videos and demonstrates the technology, which will also be used to democratize the reach of the internet throughout the country.
For Minister Marcos Pontes, the arrival of 5G should be combined with the instigation of scientific possibilities in the minds of young people, who will be leaders and innovators of the next generation of Brazilians. “The economy will be a knowledge economy. Countries that do not have a strong science and technology area will be left behind in the international market. Brazil has everything to be one of the protagonists in this area”, said Pontes.
The minister also stressed that technology is historically the basis for improving working conditions and productivity, in addition to being an accurate gauge of society’s economic capacity. “Is it over there [a tecnologia] brings better solutions for all areas. A country that expects to be a protagonist, or that wants to generate jobs, needs to invest in science and technology. This reinforces all other sectors”, he concluded.
Brazil in orbit
Among the curiosities, SNCT 2021 brings Brazilian satellites that were launched into space and that make up the constellation for monitoring and transmitting data in orbit in Brazil, such as the Cables 4-A it’s the Amazon 1.
The equipment, which was built in Brazil by Brazilian engineers through years of technological exchange projects, demonstrates the development capacity and capacity of the Brazilian aerospace industry, which “is advancing by leaps and bounds”, according to Pontes.
SNCT 2021 is organized and designed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) in partnership with development agencies, scientific-cultural spaces, teaching and research institutions, scientific societies, schools, government agencies, technology-based companies and entities of civil society. In total, 167 institutions from across the country participate in the event, which will have 6,168 activities throughout the week.
The fair can be visited from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays, and from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on weekends. Check out the complete schedule and calendar of events here.
