The Spaniard could not suppress his emotion as he prepared for what could be his last game as a professional.
Rafa Nadal could not help but get emotional while listening to the Spanish anthem a few minutes before starting his match against Botic Van de Zandschulp, at the start of the Davis Cup quarterfinal tie against the Netherlands in which the Balearic player begins his last serve to tennis before saying goodbye permanently.
The cameras have focused on Nadal’s figure from many minutes before the start of the match. The Spaniard, very focused, warmed up inside the pavilion while waiting to jump onto the field accompanied by the rest of the Spanish team, much more relaxed.
David Ferrer, Pedro Martínez and Roberto Bautista, the three Valencians in the team, were in charge of going out first to the Martín Carpena holding a flag of the Valencian Community. Marcel Granollers and Carlos Alcaraz were right behind them. And lastly it was Nadal who received the first of many thunderous ovations.
After the names of the players were announced, the anthems were played. First, that of the Netherlands; and then, that of Spain. The cameras once again focused on the face of Nadal who could not suppress his emotion.
After observing a minute of silence in tribute to the DANA victims, the Mallorcan went into action to try to give Spain the first point of the tie.
