Real Madrid captain Nacho Fernandez wants to move to MLS when his contract expires this summer, according to reports in Spain.
Fernández's contract at the Santiago Bernabéu expires at the end of the season, and it was widely reported earlier this week that he had decided to leave the club.
BRAND He points out that Nacho's preferred destination is the MLS and that his arrival in the United States is seen as a new experience for his life on and off the field and with his family.
There are other suitors for Nacho – the Saudi Pro League is open to offering him a contract to join one of their clubs – but his next move is said to not be motivated by money.
Nacho has also ruled out continuing his career in LaLiga, although he would also be reluctant to join one of Europe's big teams: Inter were interested in signing him last summer and are monitoring his current situation.
The 34-year-old is also contemplating a return to the Spanish team for Euro 2024. He has not been called up since last summer's Nations League final, although he is said to still be admired by coach Luis de la Fuente.
When asked about Nacho's possible departure earlier this week, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said: “We have to respect the decisions of our players. “They are free to decide what they want.”
Nacho has played 37 games for Madrid so far this season: after the victory in Sunday's Clásico at home against Barcelona, the Whites moved 11 points clear at the top of LaLiga and took another big step towards regaining the Spanish title from the hands of its bitter enemies in Catalonia.
Before he picks up the helm and leaves, Nacho could also captain Madrid to their 15th Champions League crown after eliminating defending champions Manchester City in the quarter-finals. They will face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, while Paris Saint-Germain or Borussia Dortmund await the winner at Wembley.
