Mykolas Aleknaa Lithuanian who was only 21 years old, entered the golden book of world athletics after throwing his discus up to 74.35 meters and ending the German's 38-year reign Jürgen Schult with a mark of 74.08 m.
Mikolas, a physical wonder of 1.94 meters, is a family of athletes and knows very well what the discus represents.
Not believing
He is the son of Virgilijus, a two-time Olympic champion in sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and, in addition, world gold in Paris 2003 and Helsinki 2005. Virgilijus marked an era on the album.
“In fact, until this emergence of his son he was third in the world ranking with a best mark of 73.88 meters in Kaunas on August 3, 2000,” said the AFP agency.
And he added: “Almost twenty-four years later, his son, now heir to the album, reached the meeting of Oklahoma, in Ramona (United States), 74.35 meters. They could even have been more because the initial measurement was 74.41, although the judges later lowered it to 74.35.”
The agency warned that the contest was spectacular since no one in history had managed to send the discus, a two-kilo object, six times over seventy meters in the same competition.
World Athletics must officially ratify, the oldest mark will become the hammer with the Russian's 86.74 meters Yuri Sedykh on August 30, 1986.
And in ladies, the oldest record is that of the Czech Jarmila Kratochvilova in 800 m, since July 26, 1983.
