“The total number of employees will increase. But fixed-paying employees will remain unchanged,” Musk added on Twitter.
Musk was responding to a comment made on an unverified Twitter account, “speculating” that the number of Tesla employees will increase over the next 12 months.
The comment comes two days after Musk sent an email to company executives, in which he said he had a “very bad feeling” about the economy and should cut about 10 percent of the company’s jobs, according to Reuters.
Tesla shares fell 9.2 percent at the close, Friday.
A disclosure provided by Tesla to US regulators showed that the company and its subsidiaries had nearly 100,000 employees at the end of 2021.
