Businessman Elon Musk, owner of the X platform (formerly Twitter), stated this Thursday (25) that “I would be happy” to testify in the Chamber of Deputies of Brazil about accusations of censorship in the country, after receiving an invitation from the Public Security and Combating Organized Crime Commission (CSPCCO), on Tuesday (23).
The commission wants to hear the billionaire's complaints against decisions by the Brazilian judiciary, mainly from minister Alexandre de Moraes, member of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), who asked to suspend a series of right-wing profiles from the social network in recent years.
The case gained national repercussion and reached the US House after the revelation of internal Twitter documents by journalist Michael Shellenberger, in collaboration with Gazeta do Povo, at the beginning of the month. The disclosure of conversations between Brazilian authorities and the platform's legal advisors showed how X reacted to requests for censorship made mainly by Moraes.
The South African businessman will also testify about Twitter Files at a hearing in the United States House on May 8, a meeting that is expected to be attended by Brazilian deputies.
Among the Brazilian federal deputies who are expected to travel to Washington are Julia Zanatta (PL-SC), Bia Kicis (PL-DF), Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) and Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS). The information was initially released by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo and later confirmed by Van Hattem's advisors.
