Businessman and owner of X, Elon Musk, endorsed the demonstration called for September 7th in Brazil, and once again called for the impeachment of the minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes.
Moraes is responsible for the court order that banned X from Brazil as punishment for Musk refusing to comply with censorship orders against user profiles on the platform.
Musk reacted with emojis of the Brazilian flag, a flexed bicep and fire in a post in which a profile wrote: “Brazilians will take to the streets to protest against dictator Alexandre de Moraes for the prohibition of X and call for his impeachment on September 7th.”
Musk also said Moraes “should be impeached for violating his oath of office.”
The publications were reproduced by Sao Paulo Newspaperwho said he accessed X through a team of international correspondents while the social network’s block was in effect in Brazil.
When banning the platform, Moraes also stipulated a fine of R$50,000 for those using “technological subterfuges” to access X, such as the use of VPN applications.
This Monday (2), the First Panel of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) unanimously maintained Moraes’ decision that blocked the X.
X censorship
The ban on the social network occurred after the platform failed to comply with a request from Moraes asking for the appointment of a legal guardian in Brazil.
The decision is part of an investigation involving businessman Elon Musk, a partner at X.
In April, Alexandre de Moraes ordered that Musk be investigated for the crimes of obstruction of justice, criminal organization and incitement to crime.
Analysts interviewed by Gazeta do Povo point out that the decision by the STF minister violates laws and creates a new type of legal act, exposing Brazil to “international ridicule” due to the way in which the subpoena that led to the platform’s takedown was issued.
Bolsonaro confirmed his presence on September 7th
At the end of last week, former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) confirmed his presence at the event on September 7th that will take place in São Paulo.
“There is no point in celebrating independence if we do not have freedom,” Bolsonaro declared in the video. The former president then explained that the purpose of the demonstration is to obtain amnesty for political prisoners.
Organizers and supporters of the event announce that it will be an act of unity around the “Fora Alexandre de Moraes” agenda.
Bolsonaro also requested that no parallel events be organized on September 7 in other locations and advised the population not to support parades promoted by the federal government.
