Given the latest alerts from the AEMET (State Meteorological Agency), which has issued a special warning this Tuesday for very heavy to torrential rains in the Balearic Islands, Malaga and some areas of the Valencian Community and Catalonia, some municipalities in the province of Valencia affected by The floods left by the last DANA are now preparing for the arrival of new showers.
Localities such as Chiva or València have decided to suspend classes in education centers, in addition to canceling activities in senior centers and have decreed mobility restrictions.
Chiva alludes in its announcement as reasons for the suspension of classes and sports activity from this Wednesday “and until further notice” to the “current state of the municipality” and in response to the information provided by the emergency services.
In the case of València, the decision has been adopted by Cecopal, the municipal operational coordination center, and means the suspension of classes this Wednesday in the southern districts, among which are the affected ones of La Torre, Castellar-Oliveral or Forn d’Alcedo, but also in the Maritime Villages.
In its statement it refers to the validity of situation 2 of the flood plan, mobility restrictions, the state of the sewage system, new weather warnings and the work on emergency warnings.
The president of the Generalitat, Carlos Mazón, said this Tuesday, in the face of the imminent damage that threatens the Valencian Community again, that “it is very important” for the population to be very attentive and follow the advice “that 112 is permanently giving” in coordination with AEMET.
Alfafar drains its main drains
The different emergency teams deployed in Alfafar this Tuesday focus their work on the drainage of the main drains and scuppers. The mayor of Alfafar, Juan Ramón Adsuara, has informed EFE that these tasks in the general drainage pipes are focused especially on the most complicated streets and lower areas of the municipality, one of the most affected by the catastrophe of last December 29. “We want to drain the entire population by tomorrow when there is a yellow alert. Large torrential rains are not expected, in principle it has nothing to do with past episodes,” explained the councilor. Due to the “clogging” that many drains present due to the dana that devastated the town two weeks ago, it is now intended to complete the removal of all the mud so that the town can “drain well.”
Aldaia brings sandbags to his station
Aldaia is also preparing for the episode of rain that could arrive from Wednesday. In this case, the municipality places sandbags in the area of its railway station, parallel to the Saleta ravine, which overflowed two weeks ago.
“The concern is once again the damage, that we do not know the level of intensity. Every year in Aldaia we have to put protective measures in place, what happens is that now they are devastated by the last tsunami, which is what we experienced” that October 29, explains Guillermo Luján, mayor of the municipality, in statements to EFE. Faced with the flooding of the ravine, common in this town in l’Horta Sud in Valencia, Aldaia has been protected by floodgates, which fit into the streets, but which have now disappeared after the ravages of the last DANA.
Aldaia uses sandbags, which between this Tuesday and Wednesday will be placed near the ravine to “channel the water and prevent it from entering the urban area,” as detailed by the mayor, who this morning approached the area to talk with neighbors.
