The singer Fermín Muguruza has invited the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, to attend the concert that will be held in Anoeta next June, where, as he has assured, “25,000 throats will sing ‘Sarri, Sarri’ so loudly” that it can be heard on the Martutene prison, in allusion to the song that remembers the escape of two ETA prisoners from prison in 1985. Muguruza, through a statement sent to Radio Euskadi, has responded, in this way, to Pradales, who yesterday said that, if the former vocalist of the group ‘Kortatu’ wants to talk about coexistence and memory, the doors of Lehendakaritza are open to him.
The singer performed last Saturday in the Martutene prison and, among his repertoire, he sang the song ‘Sarri, Sarri’, which recounts the escape from the prison of ETA members Joseba Sarrionandia and Iñaki Pikabea, which provoked criticism from victims. Given this, the Department of Justice and Human Rights of the Basque Government, directed by the socialist María Jesús San José, announced that repertoires of songs consistent with respect for human rights and all victims, as well as the principles of reintegration.
After this, Fermín Muguruza expressed his “surprise and disappointment” at what he considered a “step backwards” in the position maintained by the Basque Government and stated that he would like to know Pradales’ opinion. For his part, the Lehendakari, who was in Brussels on an official visit, stated that, if Muguruza wants them to talk about coexistence and memory, he has the Lehendakaritza’s doors open to have a “sincere and honest conversation regarding this issue.” .
In response, the singer has invited Imanol Pradales to attend his June concert in Anoeta. “We will sing ‘Sarri, Sarri’ so loudly that we will try to make the song go beyond the Anoeta stadium and reach Martutene,” he assured. Muguruza adds, in his text, that he considers it “difficult” to have an “honest” dialogue at the Ajuria Enea Palace with Imanol Pradales, since he agrees with the decision of the Department of Justice and with the suggestion that it does not respect the human rights. In any case, he accepts the invitation because, as he noted, he has been trying to “build bridges” for “many years.”
