The procedure was opened ex officio, and the prosecutor will decide whether or not to open an investigation into accusations against Pedro Guimarães
The MPT-DF (Ministry of Labor in the Federal District) opened this Wednesday (June 29, 2022) a preliminary investigation into allegations of sexual harassment involving the president of Caixa Econômica Federal, Pedro Guimarães.
The news was in fact opened on the initiative of the agency, at the request of labor prosecutor Paulo Neto. The procedure is a step prior to the investigation. The responsible prosecutor will decide whether or not to open a civil inquiry to investigate the case.
Possible hearings can be made after the investigation is initiated.
Report published on Tuesday (June 28) by the news portal metropolises released recordings with the accusations against Guimarães. Several women, according to the publication, went to the Federal Public Ministry and made the same reports, which remain confidential. The MPF would be installing an investigation procedure regarding the episodes.
According to the publication, he acted inappropriately in front of female employees. Among the reported episodes are unauthorized intimate touches and invitations incompatible with the work situation. Read here what was reported by employees. In a statement, the institution denies having knowledge of the cases and says it has several internal control mechanisms.
Guimarães participated this Wednesday (June 29) in an internal event at the state bank. He spoke and quoted the woman and her children.
“I want to thank you all, my wife, for being here. I think, in a very clear way, it’s been almost 20 years together, 2 kids. A lifetime guided by ethics”, says Guimarães at an event about the 2022/2023 Crop Plan.
Then, the president of Caixa cites as an example of his “life guided by ethics” the results of his management in the state bank. “Today we are an example. I’m very proud of you all and the way I’ve always behaved throughout my life.”
CHARGES OF HARASSMENT
Among the reported episodes about Guimarães’ conduct are unauthorized intimate touches and invitations incompatible with the work situation.
O Power 360 found that Pedro Guimarães’ reputation as a harasser was great in the political world of Brasília. Government officials and allied congressmen admitted to knowing about such cases.
This Wednesday (June 29), the government should remove Guimarães from the presidency of the state bank and appoint a woman to the position. Daniella Marques, Secretary of Productivity and Competitiveness of the Ministry of Economy, should be the new president of Caixa.
Even with Guimarães’ proximity to the president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), his permanence in the state-owned company became unsustainable. He was even quoted as a candidate for vice president on the governing ticket in the 2022 Elections.
Pedro Guimarães took charge of Caixa in January 2019, shortly after the inauguration of President Jair Bolsonaro (PL). A specialist in privatizations, he was appointed by Minister Paulo Guedes (Economy), with whom he was already close. Gradually, Guimarães distanced himself from Guedes and the other ministers. Today, he has a direct connection with the Chief Executive.
In 2020, for example, he was a constant figure in the lives held weekly by Bolsonaro. Guimarães was called by the president to talk about the emergency aid paid through Caixa to the most vulnerable during the pandemic.
Before joining the government, the executive was a partner at Banco Brasil Plural.
