Small decline for the motorcycle market in August 2024. The two-wheeler sector recorded a -2.5% compared to the same period of the previous year after having grown by 8.4% in July according to the data on monthly registrations provided by Confindustria ANCMA (National Association of Cycles, Motorcycles and Accessories). The month therefore closed with a slight decline influenced in particular by the minus signs of scooters and mopeds, while the stability of motorcycles was confirmed.
Motorcycle Market Analysis
Focusing on the numbers, the two-wheeler market slowed down in August, recording a 2.58% decline, equal to 17,853 vehicles put on the market. Positive performance for motorcycles, which grew by 2% and registered 7,491 vehicles. On the other hand, scooters dropped by 4.04% and registered 9,362 vehicles. Double-digit decline for mopeds, which fell by 18.43% and registered 1,000 units. Despite a slight decline in August, the good health of the two-wheeler market is confirmed by the annual trend, which recorded a growth of 5.39%, equal to 272,722 vehicles sold. In detail, motorcycles are still driving sales with an increase of 7.99% and 120,854 units. Scooters also performed well, growing by 4.41%, corresponding to 139,109 vehicles sold. Mopeds were once again at the bottom, falling by 6.35%, equal to 12,759 vehicles put on the road.
Electric cars still in the red
Finally, for the eighth consecutive month, the electric vehicle market closed in the red with a 13.78% drop in August and 588 vehicles sold. In this area, the performance of scooters is good, achieving the same result as August 2023 (368 vehicles), while the moped market remains struggling, losing 32.75% and recording 191 units. The year as a whole marks a -22.09% equal to 7,264 vehicles put on the road.
