Apparently, last week’s private test at Mugello gave Yamaha the desired answers. In fact, the Iwata manufacturer seems determined to approve a new aerodynamic package in view of this weekend’s MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix, which should be an evolution of what had taken its first steps during the official tests that took place in Jerez, on the Monday following the Spanish Grand Prix.
The confirmation was given by team director Massimo Meregalli, who in the press release announcing the weekend in Barcelona said: “The next two weeks will be very important, with the Catalan GP and the Italian GP one after the other. Barcelona we will put into practice some of the results of the private test we carried out last week at Mugello. Based on the positive data, we will most likely approve the second aerodynamic package”, explained the Italian manager.
An opportunity that Yamaha can exploit by enjoying the complete package of concessions, which will offer the possibility of then also approving a further upgrade during the season, while renouncing one of the previous two.

Fabio Quartararo, who after renewing his contract wants to help Yamaha more than ever to get out of the difficult situation it is facing, which prevented it from collecting more than just 25 points in the first five outings of the season, also seems impatient to ” weigh” the new features in comparison with our rivals: “After the private test in Mugello, we have chosen an aerodynamic version that we will test here this weekend. I am curious to see how it will be. We will certainly do our best, as always”, he confirmed. El Diablo”.
Regardless, it will be a special weekend for Alex Rins, given that it is his home race. Even the Catalan rider, who has had a complicated start on the M1 so far, seems eager to evaluate the new package in Montmeló.
“This is the first Monster Energy GP of the season and it’s also my home GP, so this definitely adds a bit of extra excitement. We’ve worked hard to try to make the most of the extra time on track that the private test at Mugello. This weekend we will have a new aerodynamic package available, the version I liked. So, all in all, I can’t wait to start racing in Montmeló”, concluded Rins.
