We will still have to wait for the decisions relating to the possible ban on the lowering devices, but in the meantime, on the occasion of the Grand Prix of Qatar last weekend, some new resolutions have arrived from the Grand Prix Commission.
Specifically, these are news regarding Moto2 and Moto3, but also the use of flags and light signals. With the latter that will clearly have an impact on all three classes, but not only.
Sporting Regulations
Immediate effect
Following feedback from the riders it was agreed to redefine the situations in which certain flags and light panels should be displayed indicating a lack of grip.
The new meanings of the flags will be:
Red and yellow striped flag
Grip on this stretch of track could be affected by any reason other than rain (oil, gravel, grass or other debris). This flag must be waved at the commissioner’s post.
White flag with diagonal red cross
Indicates raindrops on this stretch of track, including rain falling directly onto the asphalt. This flag must be waved at the commissioner’s post.
In accordance with the FIM, in order to be coherent from this point of view, the same meaning will also be applied in the other FIM championships and in the national championships.
Technical regulation
Moto2 and Moto3 – Immediate effect
Given the inability to determine the source and specification of tires used by riders for road bike training, it was agreed that teams can now take advantage of unused tires during race weekends. Therefore, no tires will be returned to Dunlop at the end of the event.
A further consequence is that the teams will only receive new tires in their equipment for the events. Therefore, there will be no more tires that had already been allocated and that had possibly already been placed in the electric blanket.
Moto3 – Effective from 2023
To facilitate the introduction of an automatic warning system for pilots approaching the scene of an accident, it will be necessary to make some changes to the electronics, including the application and unification of the 6-axis Dell’Orto IMU and of the BC-OUT_RL-300 2D power supply module.
The modified equipment and systems will be effective from 2023. However, the development of this technology will be carried out in a tender situation in 2022.
