For some months now, the Suzuki had made clear the will of give up their team in MotoGP, without however announcing the farewell in an official manner. In fact, there was no overall agreement with Dorna, the organizer of the World Championship with which the Japanese company had entered into a long-term agreement. The expected press release arrived todayin which Suzuki confirms that it has found a meeting point with Dorna, to conclude its experience in MotoGP and in the EWC (the world endurance championship) at the end of the 2022 championship. The Hamamatsu company has ensured that for the rest of the season “Will keep the best efforts to win the remaining races”, thanking the fans for their support over the years.
Toshihiro Suzuki, president of Suzuki, then wanted to explain the decision: “We have decided to end our participation in the MotoGP and EWC, in light of the need to re-allocate resources on other initiatives concerning sustainability. Motorcycle racing has been a platform for us for technological innovations, including sustainability and human resource development. This decision means that we have accepted the challenge of building a new business by channeling technological skills and human resources cultivated in racing, to explore other avenues for a more sustainable society. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to the fans, the riders and all those who have invested in our project and have enthusiastically supported it, since our return to MotoGP. I will continue to give my maximum support to Rins, Mir and the team, with the aim of being competitive until the end of the season. Thanks for the support”.
