Fabio Quartararo seemed to be the man who would shake up the MotoGP rider market. The 2021 world champion had anticipated that he would not wait too long to decide his future and the belief had now taken hold in the paddock that he would leave Yamaha after six seasons together, because the decline of the last two had been too much obvious.
“El Diablo” kept his word, because he was one of the first to announce his future (if we exclude more obvious situations such as Pecco Bagnaia's renewal with Ducati), but the surprise is that in the end he decided to give more trust in the Iwata manufacturer, signing a new two-year contract, which will therefore expire at the end of the 2026 season.
An important signal especially for the Japanese brand, which did not start this 2024 in the best way, with a seventh place in Portimao as its best result and the gap to the best remaining very wide. Maybe even too much, between 15 and 20 seconds in long races. And it was precisely this that had made us think that Fabio would have preferred to emigrate to other shores. It is no coincidence that the rumors about his possible move to Aprilia had become increasingly insistent.

Since the beginning of the year, however, the Frenchman had also underlined how much the approach in the Yamaha garage had changed, becoming much more direct and less wait-and-see, especially thanks to the arrival from Ducati of Max Bartolini, who took on the role of technical director, and who seems intent on making the most of the new concession system. And it was precisely this that convinced him to continue the partnership with the Japanese, as he himself explained.
“I am very happy to announce that I will continue my adventure in BLUE!”, said Quartararo in the press release released this morning by Yamaha. “Last winter Yamaha showed me that it has a new approach and a new aggressive mentality. My confidence is high: we will return to the front together!”.
“Six years ago they gave me the chance to move to MotoGP and since then we have done great things together. We still have a long way to go to start fighting for victories again. I will work hard and I am sure that, together, we will once again achieve the our dream,” #20 added.
