The MotoGP grid is starting to take shape, but not only in terms of riders: the manufacturers and teams also represent important pieces in a puzzle that is about to be completed. The Pertamina Enduro VR46 team announced its future plans today, having made official the agreement with Ducati to become factory supported starting in 2025.
This is an important step forward for Valentino Rossi’s team, which is increasingly tied to the Borgo Panigale brand, thus having a Desmosedici GP25 available for next season. With the reduction from four to three official bikes for next year, Ducati had to choose who to entrust the remaining most advanced model to in addition to the factory team. The choice was reduced to two teams: Pertamina Enduro VR46 and Gresini, given the farewell of Pramac, which from next year will be factory-supported Yamaha.
Thus, Ducati has chosen the team led by Alessio “Uccio” Salucci, who will be able to entrust one of its two riders with the GP25. The official press release speaks of a multi-year agreement (a two-year agreement with a possible renewal with the advent of the new regulation), so for a long time VR46 will be able to count on the support of the Bologna-based company, also taking an important step in its growth and becoming the structure closest to the official one.
“From day one, the VR46 team has shown that it knows how to work in perfect harmony with Ducati and in recent years we have achieved great results,” comments Gigi Dall’Igna. “We are happy to be able to strengthen our relationship even more, giving the team ‘factory’ support starting next season. I am sure that together we can achieve great things. I thank Valentino, Uccio and Pablo (Nieto, ed.), as well as all the people who work in the team with great passion and dedication”.
The General Manager of Ducati Corse is echoed by Uccio, Team Director of the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team: “I couldn’t be more proud to announce that next year the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team will be the factory-supported Ducati in MotoGP. We will have an official bike and a Desmosedici GP24. If someone had told me this a few years ago, I wouldn’t have believed it”.
“It’s a really significant moment for the whole team: getting this result with such a young team, with so many guys from Moto3, in just three years is truly extraordinary. I want to thank all the people who work in the team, the sponsors who support us, in particular Pertamina Lubricants, Ducati and Gigi Dall’Igna for believing in this project until the end, sharing it and valorizing it as it deserves. Years of hard work, great challenges await us and we can’t wait to put ourselves to the test to achieve increasingly ambitious results”, concludes Uccio.
Only the official announcement is missing, but it seems very likely that Fabio Di Giannantonio will race with the GP25 next year in the VR46 team. He could be joined by Franco Morbidelli, who leaves Pramac to join Valentino Rossi’s team. It would be a dream that “would close a circle”, as Uccio revealed to us in an interview with Motorsport.com.
