By now it was almost taken for granted in the MotoGP paddock, but now there is also all the trappings of officiality: after wearing the GasGas Tech3 colors for his debut in the premier class, from 2025 Pedro Acosta will defend the colors of Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, to which he has signed a multi-year contract and in which he will join the already confirmed Brad Binder.
The debut of the reigning Moto2 world champion was one of the most anticipated innovations of the 2024 season and so far he has not disappointed expectations, given that in his second race, in Portimao, he immediately managed to get on the podium and then was able to stay rather steadily in the top positions, already becoming in all respects the reference driver for the Mattighofen manufacturer.
A start to his career in the premier class that had removed almost all doubts regarding his move to the official team, also because his contract contained a clause according to which the Austrian brand could have also lost him if it had not promoted him next season. And objectively it was something he couldn’t afford, given that we’re talking about what could be the brightest star of the next decade of MotoGP.
“When in 2020 I signed my first contract with KTM to move to Moto3 it was a dream. It wasn’t the easiest time for me and they saved my career, let’s say, and it was fantastic to take that step towards the factory team and doing this whole journey together. I remember 2019 and the selection event for the Rookies; it seemed like a last chance for me, and KTM and Red Bull gave me an opportunity. It’s one of the best memories I have.” , commented the “Shark of Mazarron”.

“It was nice to hear the expectations of the media, of the sponsors, of all the people involved… but then the people around me kept saying that it was a season without pressure. However, it was not easy to face the first season of MotoGP with the results we have achieved so far we are on the right track,” he continued.
“For me it was important to keep pushing with KTM and see the whole project, the history to date and how we have grown in racing. So, it’s good to continue for the future: coming in orange is like coming home. The way which they are pushing and improving in the last two years is also what pushes me to stay for the next two years”, concluded the Spaniard.
Team manager Francesco Guidotti did not hide his satisfaction with the outcome of the operation: “In racing you can never stand still or slow down and Pedro’s story is something rare. We can almost define him as a generational talent for what he has achieved so far. It is clear that he is now one of the hottest names in MotoGP and for 2025 it will be interesting to see him and work with him more closely. The standards are very high in many aspects: the bikes, the tyres, the equipment and teams. So, to stand out so quickly means something very special. I think you also have to give credit to his current team in the garage next door for giving Pedro the platform to show what he can do.”
The same goes for KTM Motorsports director Pit Beirer: “It is with great pleasure that we announce this news. We are as excited as anyone when Pedro shows his speed and personality on the track, and it seems that this guy is winning over many new fans around the world. From the first days in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup we understood that this was a special rider. Someone who does things differently and with the strongest mentality to make his own way unique in the world of MotoGP”.
“He gives us a lot of energy and strength to go on this journey with him through our teams and our bikes. I also want to mention our KTM GP Academy and the work of people like Aki Ajo with Pedro. It’s great that we will stay together for a few more years He has a great future in MotoGP and we look forward to the next chapter of his career with us,” concluded Beirer.
