The 2022 MotoGP season did not open at its best for Jorge Martin. The young and very fast Spanish rider from Ducati, in force for the second consecutive year at the Pramac team, had immediately centered the pole position on Saturday in Losail, but then a negative start and the accident caused in the second part of the race by Pecco Bagnaia they put him offside. A heavy zero also from a championship point of view, considering that Marc Marquez and Fabio Quartararo – albeit protagonists of difficult races – did not miss the appointment with the points. Now the World Championship moves to Mandalika, Indonesia, where the goal for the 24-year-old from Madrid is redemption.
Interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport on the eve of the weekend in the Asian south-east, however, Martin made it clear that he had no resentment towards Bagnaia for the fall of Qatar. “Pecco apologized to me, both in returning to the pits and in hospitality, but the truth is that we were both suffering because we were not competitive. An accident can happen: it happened to him, it could happen to me “. Regarding the difficult start, however, the # 89 of the Pramac team minimized the problems of the new GP22: “I didn’t start very well but not bad either. I had to turn off the gas because Bastianini was in front. The point is that all the new Ducatis are suffering in acceleration: if you lose meters at the exit of the last corner then you have to recover all along the track and the tire temperatures go up. I also have to adapt my style“.
With Bagnaia having just signed the renewal of the contract with the factory team, there is only one more saddle to fill for the team from Borgo Panigale, with many interesting riders to make it their own. Martin is one of these, obviously together with the winner of Qatar, Enea Bastianini, and Jack Miller, current owner of the second ‘red’. Martin’s viewfinder is aimed: “I see myself as one of the strongest on the grid, capable of fighting for the podium and victory at every race. The official Ducati team is one of my goals, above all I want to win as much as possible “. And when it comes to victory, the first thought goes to the world title: “The World Cup is a goal: I don’t know if this year, next or when, but it’s the dream of my life “he concluded.
